What is the issue?

The issue is that European astronomers have discovered a new planet about 142 trillion miles away from Earth. They believe that there may be possibly water and life on 581 c.

Who is involved?

The European scientists are involved

Who is affected?

  • The scientists- they have to study and observe the planet to look for signs of life
  • Other astronomers- they also study and observe the planet for signs of water
  • People who have access to a computer and like to dream up ideas of ET- They will spread rumours of life on another planet and that it’s comimg to attack Earth

What I would do if I were directly involved…

If I were directly involved, I would first tell the public about any new discoveries that we are making and reassure the UFO freaks that there aren’t any alien races coming to attack us. After that, I would make a website so that people are aware of the new planet and with more information.

Current Event- January hottest month on record

February 21, 2007

What is the issue?

Experts say that the previous January was the hottest month on record, beating 2002’s record by 0.81 degrees Celsius. Even water and land temperatures have changed drastically, soaring up to 1.53 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than normal. While these figures may not seem to affect the world, scientists disagree. They say that records are broken at the most, hundreglobal-warming-mountain.jpgdths of a degree at a time. Meteorologists think that this sudden rise in temperature is not only due to the heating of the Pacific Ocean(a small factor) but global warming and climate changes.

Who is involved?

As of now, only meteorologists are involved but as Earth’s temperature rises, everyone will be involved.

Who is affected and how?

Right now, no one is affected but if global warming continues, many people, the whole world even will be affected. For example, if there is global warming, glaciers and ice caps will melt, and are melting. This will lead to floods in northern Europe and the northern part of North America.

What would you do if you were directly involved

If I was directly involved, I would try to raise awareness because some people don’t know about global warming. Another way would be to replace fossil fuels with the fuel that runs on vegetables in order to stop the lessening of the ozone layer. I would also replace trucks on an yearly basis to stop the emission from getting into the atmosphere. However, in the long run, global warming is unpreventable.

The anniversary of 9/11- trial run.

September 17, 2006

What was the issue?

The anniversary of the 9/11 bombings.

Who is involved?

  • the 2749 casualities
  • the families of the people killed
  • the friends of the people killed
  • the survivors
  • the United States of America
  • the airports

How are they affected?

  • the families of the victims of the crashes would be affected because their husbands, wifes, fathers mothers etc are dead and be sad
  • the children of the victims because they would lose a relative
  • the airports because of the attacks, they would have to tighten security with lots more security guards
  • the friends because their best friends or even girl/boyfriends would be dead in the attacks
  • the USA because the citizens know that since planes can be hijacked, it is not safe to travel anymore

What would I do if I were involved?

If I was involved, I would first let the people know that they are not alone and that everyone dies eventually. Next, I would do as George Bush did- read out the names of the people who died and have a 4 minute silence.

What I have learned about current events so far

August 29, 2006

Over the past weeks, I have learned that current events can be no longer than 3 days old. A good current event should effect the whole world or a major part of it. An example of a bad current event would be- in the seventh Harry Potter book, Harry dies. A good current event would be something like this….earthquakes and hurricanes shake apart the Western Hemisphere.
